Artist Statement

An assemblage of scents made from organic and vegan essential, absolute, and carrier oils. Here are the ingredients:

Carrier oils: Peach kernel oil

Top notes:  Lime

Heart notes: Honeysuckle

Base notes:  Cocoa

In perfume-making, the various scents are considered notes, which is perfect for groupies who love music; music is made of notes. Scent can be applied to love letters (love notes!), too.

My brother, Lacey Smith Jr., pointed out that scent can be applied to any letter for individual bloom. He also said that the grouping of notes is like the grouping of fans. He mused about the sounds groupies make, and I remembered that some bands record live concert albums but later, in the studio, dub in more sounds of fans cheering to make the concert sound better.

My mother, Lucretia Baldwin "Teka" Ward, said that with music you love, "You're completely present.  You're where you want to be and you don’t want to be anywhere else." That's the feeling I hope the groupie perfume creates.

The heart-shape of the perfume bottle's stopper symbolizes the creative, sexual, and imaginative power of the womb. Gloria Steinem believes the heart shape is an ancient symbol of female power, equal to the phallic symbol.

All oils purchased through Etsy, from Alia Pure, Avadata, and Skylara.

I purchased the perfume bottle @ 2013-2015 at Dustmuffin vintage shop in Silver Lake, Los Angeles, CA.
